Our Investment DB Business Unit is as a key component of our consulting services and helps firmly establish us as a UK market leader. We currently advise on over ~£200 billion of assets for a diverse client base, providing full investment consulting services to DB pension trustees and sponsors across a wide variety of business and industry sectors, as well as local government pension schemes (LGPS) and other public sector clients. Responsible Investment (RI) and climate change considerations are relevant in all aspects of our advice and require specialist skills and knowledge to ensure that this advice is effectively delivered.

We have an exciting opportunity to join this Business Unit as a Responsible Investment Analyst.

What will your role look like?
Our analysts play a key role in supporting the work of the Investment Business Unit and providing practical support to our client facing consultants. In this role you will support the delivery of RI specific advice to both internal and external audiences - to contribute to the development of intellectual capital within the RI arena and to support with the evolution of our RI proposition.

Though this is a varied role, your key tasks will include:

  • Supporting with the delivery of the RI proposition in accordance with the wider Investment Business plan
  • Drafting standard reports for review by other members of the RI team on a range of RI issues within investment consulting
  • Analysis of portfolios and production of high quality climate and environmental, social and governance (‘ESG’) monitoring reports
  • Undertaking other analysis (such as analysis of client investment strategies against climate ambitions) and using the outputs of this to support the development of advice to meet climate related objectives
  • Production of client stewardship (voting and engagement) reports and Implementation Statements
  • Undertaking ESG focused manager research and engagement with asset managers
  • Providing day to day to support in responding to RI related queries from the broader consulting team
  • Undertaking RI related project work including supporting clients in reporting against the Taskforce on Climate related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), integration of RI considerations within manager selections, assisting clients in establishing RI beliefs, and writing RI policies
  • Assisting with the dissemination of knowledge to both internal and external audiences through training sessions, drafting blog posts, articles, etc
  • Coaching and mentoring less experienced analysts within client teams and the wider investment team on a number of technical areas

To enjoy and succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Relevant experience gained in a similar role (within investment or sustainability consultancy, fund management or in another relevant financial or sustainability sector) with demonstratable knowledge/experience of sustainability and/or climate change
  • Been educated to at least under graduate degree level (ideally in in sustainability, maths, economics, or another numerate discipline) or have equivalent experience
  • Ideally started studying towards either an Actuarial or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification
  • An awareness of the major asset owners and managers, as well as the major classes used in UK pension scheme strategies and of the key topical matters arising within the UK DB pensions market
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A flexible, pro-active, and innovative approach to problem-solving
  • An enthusiasm for working across a range of diverse teams, while also being able to work on your own initiative
  • The ability to work in a way that is aligned to our four core values of being friendly, partnering, straightforward and confident
  • Strong organisational  and project management skills, with the ability to multi-task
  • First class IT skills (in particular the suite of Microsoft Office tools)
